Security breach compromises customer data

A security breach affecting one of Precision Planting’s data servers may have compromised customers’ personal information.  In an official statement, the company says it feels the breach, which happened in March, was not an attempt to steal customer information, however, personal information may have been accessed.

Precision Planting says some files contained customer names, addresses, tax identification numbers, and credit card numbers.  But, farm data (like yield data) that may have been submitted to the company would not have been affected as it is stored on a separate system.  The company says it is not aware of any misuse of the information impacted by the incident.

Precision Planting says they are working to increase security safeguards on the impacted server and are reviewing the security on other servers in an effort to prevent further incidents.
