EPA pressured to withdraw proposed rule

More than three dozen members of Congress who are part of the Congressional Western Caucus have sent a letter to EPA administrator Gina McCarthy asking her to withdraw the controversial Clean Water Act rule.

Among those signing the letter was Nebraska Senator Mike Johanns.

“If the rule were to go forward, we could see new and expensive permitting and compliance costs for producers who might simply have a drainage ditch that’s dry most of the year,” Johanns says. “But under the EPA rules, we worry that they’ll be tangled up in the EPA process.”

Commenting during his weekly conference call with reporters, Johanns said he’s concerned that EPA is ignoring the limitations of the Clean Water Act.
