Brown, Gibbs named Legislators of the Year

Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) Jerry Bambaurer, President Ohio Soybean Assn._webThe Ohio Soybean Association (OSA) has honored Senator Sherrod Brown and Congressman Bob Gibbs as Legislators of Year, for their work on behalf of soybean farmers.

Senator Brown received the award from Jerry Bambauer, OSA President from Auglaize County.

“We appreciate everything he does for the soybean industry,” said Bambauer. “He’s been instrumental in biofuels, our biodiesel program, our export market and he’s in the bio-based products, all part of our recognition of an individual that’s been very helpful to the soybean industry.”

In an interview with Brownfield the Senator said supporting Ohio soybean farmers is not something he takes lightly.

“These issues are why I got on the Agriculture Committee, the first Senator in 40 years from Ohio to that,” Brown said. “Because it matters so much in our state, I want this part of our state, agriculture means so much, to prosper, because the whole state prospers when they are.”

Delaware County farmer and OSA chairman Bret Davis says not only did Senator Brown listen to soybean farmers during the Farm Bill discussions, the Senator was instrumental in getting the Farm Bill passed.

“I’m so glad that’s he’s on the Ag Committee, because that’s what we need, a good ear that cares about his constituents and cares about the farm community as a whole,” Davis said.
