Cheese and butter stocks lower

The monthly Cold Storage Report from USDA shows total cheese stocks as of the end of March were up slightly from February but 9 percent below March of 2013.

Total cheese in the nation’s warehouses on March 31st was just over 1 billion pounds, 105 million pounds less than on March 31st, 2013. American cheese in cold storage totaled 631 million pounds at the end of last month compared to 684 million a year ago.

Butter in cold storage was up 9 percent for the month but down 30 percent from a year ago. There was 178 million pounds of butter in cold storage on March 31st compared to nearly 255 million pounds a year ago.
