Interest in Livestock Disaster programs

Steve Maurer, State Executive Director of the Ohio Farm Service Agency (FSA) says sign-up in the USDA’s Livestock Disaster programs, underway at local FSA offices has been light in the state.

“We’ve had inquiries, but we haven’t had a lot of people come in to sign-up,” said Maurer. “Those who might file a claim want to make sure they have everything right when they come in so they call the office to see what they need to do.”

Another program offering disaster assistance that may see a lot of interest in Ohio because of the harsh winter is the Tree Assistance Program (TAP) available to orchard and vineyard producers.

“We’ve been working with the grape producers, Extension Service, all these folks to help advise folks what they need, what records they need to keep before they come into the office and file a claim for that assistance,” the State Executive Director said.

Information is available at the local USDA FSA Service Center.
