Weather impedes planting in Illinois

Just one-percent of corn had been planted in Illinois as of Sunday. That’s the same amount as this time in 2013. The state Ag Statistics office says with heavy storms and rainfall throughout much of Illinois last week most of the field work consisted of anhydrous application, spring tillage and oat planting. Corn and potato planting began early last week.

Topsoil and subsoil moisture is mostly adequate with some surplus. However, about one-third of the state’s subsoil is short of moisture.

Illinois’ winter wheat conditions are 80 percent fair to good.
