Wheeler ‘excited to serve growers’

Gary Wheeler says he looks forward to building the grassroots of the Missouri Soybean Association. The newly announced CEO of the state’s soybean grower’s organization tells Brownfield it’s his priority to meet growers face-to-face and to add members.

Regarding his first day on the job April 21, Wheeler says he’s excited.

“I haven’t had these types of butterflies since the day I got married, so I’m very excited about moving forward, getting on the ground over there,” he told Brownfield Ag News. “They’ve got a great staff, a tremendous board, and some great leaders over there, not only on a state-wide basis but on a national basis.”

Wheeler says he’s anxious to work with other commodity groups for the betterment of all agriculture in the state.

“Especially with the Missouri Corn Growers Association, there’s a lot of synergies,” he said. “If you’re a corn farmer, you’re a soybean farmer for the most part, depending on your crop rotation.”

The position Wheeler is leaving is deputy executive director for the Missouri Corn Growers Association.

“I’m just really excited to continue to serve the growers.”
