Rural schools to apply for education grants by April 21

There’s only a couple of weeks for school administrators from nominated school districts to submit grant applications for $10,000 or $25,000 in America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education program. The program, in its third year and sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, is investing over $2.3 million to strengthen math and science education in rural communities.

Heather Wolfe, a customer advocacy manager with Monsanto, tells Brownfield Ag News that farmers nominated local public school districts to compete for one of the grants. Now it’s up to administrators from nominated districts to submit their applications, which is to be done by April 21. Wolfe says the grants are used to enhance the schools’ math and/or science programs.

America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education launched in 2012 after a successful pilot in Minnesota and Illinois. The program has since helped more than 400 school districts improve math and science education across 39 states.
