Missouri Farm Bureau in action

Leslie Holloway, Missouri Farm BureauState legislative priorities for Missouri Farm Bureau members are at the forefront in Jefferson City, Missouri today and Tuesday. Members are gathered in the capital city for their Commodity and Legislative Conference where support for key legislation and ballot issues is being discussed with lawmakers.

Farm Bureau’s state legislative lobbyist Leslie Holloway says these one-on-one meetings are very valuable.  She tells Brownfield Ag News, “Farm Bureau is a grassroots organization and this is grassroots in action.”

Missouri Farm Bureau officials say voter support appears to be trending toward the Right to Farm Amendment which will be on the ballot later this year and that members must work to gain support for it from undecided voters.

The state Farm Bureau is also seeking to reverse a bill that passed last year that would allow foreign entities to own up to 1% of Missouri agricultural land for farming. Missouri Farm Bureau wants the 1978 law that prohibited foreign ownership of more than five acres for farming reinstated.
