Last week we talked with Virginia dairyman Gerald Heatwole about getting more profits to the bank, especially in times of low milk prices and high input costs. Heatwole seems to have gotten the hang of operating a dairy farm consistently in the black and he is quick to share his views on how to best get that done. The Shenandoah Valley, around the area of McGaheysville, Virginia, Heatwole’s home base, is not an area of weather extremes, but they get their share.
