Managing for Profit

Expansion plans are on hold for this Iowa pork producer

At the recent Iowa Pork Congress in Des Moines, we talked to pork producer Mark Meirick of Protivin, Iowa about his plans for 2014 and beyond.

Meirick is part of a 2,500 sow farrow-to-finish operation in northeast Iowa. Meirick says that, even though the profit outlook looks good right now, any thoughts of expansion in their operation are on hold due to concerns with the PED virus.  He also shares his views on the issues surrounding sow housing.
