Best year ever for CWT dairy exports

The Cooperatives Working Together (CWT) program assisted the sale of 127.9 million pounds of cheese and 97.2 million pounds of butter to 40 countries on six continents in 2013.

Total cheese sales were up 4.4 percent from 2012; Cheddar was the most popular making up 76 percent of the total cheese sold. A majority of the cheese went to Asia with Japan the biggest customer. 25 percent went to North Africa, mostly Egypt and sales to the Middle East accounted for 12 percent of the total.

Butter sales were up 22 percent from 2012 with 53 percent going to the Middle East.  Saudi Arabia was the biggest customer followed by Iran.
