China continues to reject U.S. corn

Based on information from China’s official news agency, it appears the Chinese continued to reject cargoes of U.S. corn in late December because they contained the unapproved genetically modified MIR 162 corn trait.  And Chinese traders says those rejections are likely to continue.

The report says that, as of the end of last year, China had rejected 601-thousand tons of U.S. corn and corn by-products.  A report in late December had put that number at 545-thousand.

Meanwhile, another Chinese agency is reporting that that China recently received its first shipment of corn from Ukraine.  The report says a Panamax-sized shipment of non-genetically modified corn from Ukraine entered the country on December 6th.
