A little less meat in the nation’s coolers

The monthly Cold Storage Report from USDA shows total red meat in the nation’s coolers at the end of November 1.016 billion pounds down 2 percent from the end of October and 1 percent below November of 2012.

Beef stocks ended the month at 445 million pounds up 1 percent for the month and the year.

Pork stocks finished the month with 546.33 million pounds down 3 percent from October and 2 percent below the end of November last year.

Other meats: veal 3.2 million pounds down 3 percent for the month and 8 percent for the year; lamb and mutton 21.8 million pounds in cold storage, 9 percent below October but 15 percent above November of 2012.

Frozen poultry stocks as of November 30th: 942 million pounds down 18 percent from the end of October but up 1 percent from November 30, 2012.

Total chicken in the coolers 720.9 million pounds up 2 percent for the month and up 7 percent for the year.

Total turkey 219.2 million pounds down 50 percent from October and 14 percent below a year ago.

Total cheese in the nation’s warehouses as of November 30th was 998.5 million pounds, down 2 percent from October but 1 percent more than a year ago. American type cheese stocks were down 2 percent for the month but up 1 percent for the year at 616 million pounds.

Butter stocks dropped 33 percent during November with 121.4 million pounds on-hand at the end of the month. That number is 5 percent below a year ago.
