Tyler Loschen was 8-years-old when he entered the hog business, barely out of grade school when he signed a rental agreement on farmland and could be considered nothing but a young man now, having recently bought 40 acres at public auction to farm. The Illinois man is a finalist for American Star Farmer, which is hardly a surprise knowing his history. “I don’t have a family operation that I can tie into,” explains Loschen. But his grandparents farmed, which was enough to ignite the spark that today is a 400 acre farm.
