Missouri corn harvest and ethanol lauded

Gary Marshal, CEO of Missouri Corn Growers and Governor Jay Nixon at ADM elevator in Novelty, MissouriGovernor Jay Nixon and the new state’s acting Ag Director Harry Bozoian joined with Missouri Corn Growers Association CEO Gary Marshall this week at the ADM grain elevator in Novelty, Missouri to celebrate this year’s harvest. Marshall says this is one of the largest corn crops in Missouri and Nixon added that the yields are looking great.

Nixon said, “Right now, state corn yields statewide are up and we’re seeing averages pushing well above 125 bushels per acre with some farmers reporting high yields of about 200 bushels per acre in this region. That’s good news for our farmers and producers, for our rural communities and for our entire state.”  As of Sunday, the USDA reports Missouri’s corn harvest was 63% complete.

Gary Marshall says ADM is the perfect place to celebrate Missouri corn and ethanol production, “Everything we have in Missouri related to ethanol started with ADM because they were the ones that really started the ethanol mission, as I like to call it, across the United States. Way back in 1980. And, since then, every single president, every single Congress has supported ethanol made from corn. It’s the same way in Missouri. Every single governor, every single legislature has been very, very supportive of what we’ve done. But, none has contributed any more than what Governor Nixon has to our efforts.”

Governor Nixon said he would continue to push for more fuel choices at the pump, specifically E-15, and continue with the Missouri export initiative helping the state’s farmers sell more products around the world.
