Midwest Fertilizer selects Posey County

Midwest Fertilizer Corporation selected Posey County Indiana to manufacture nitrogen-based fertilizer.  According to AgProfessional.com the company will invest $2.1 billion, employ 200 high-wage permanent workers as well as create 2,500 construction-based jobs over a three-year period.  Midwest’s CEO Mike Chorlton says Posey county is a perfect fit for the project and was selected over numerous US sites and two Canadian provinces.

John Taylor, Executive Director for the Posey County Economic Development Partnership told AgProfessionals this is a game changing investment and employer to Posey County and the region.

Farmers located in Indiana and the Midwest who rely upon nitrogen fertilizer will also benefit from the project.  The new facility will be located near the sixth busiest inland water port in the nation, Ports of Indiana – Mt. Vernon.  They expect to break ground in March of 2014.

The new plant will manufacture nitrogen-based fertilizers solely for the US market.
