Reuters pegs U.S. corn harvest at 20%, soybeans at 22%

There may be no official USDA crop progress report this week, but if a poll of analysts by Reuters is any indication, U.S. corn and soybean harvests were delayed last week by widespread rainfall, with the generally slower than average development of the crop a continued factor as well.

Reuters projects this year’s corn harvest at 20% complete, on average, compared to 12% last week, and the soybean harvest is estimated at 22% complete, compared to 11% a week ago. This time last year – 69% of corn and 58% of soybeans were harvested.

Normally out Monday afternoons, USDA’s weekly crop progress numbers have been delayed by the government shutdown.
