Monsanto Fund aims to improve math and science

Through a program called America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education, school districts in rural America can apply for grants for up to $25,000 to improve math and science curriculum. Deborah Patterson, president of the Monsanto Fund, told Brownfield Ag News that districts are first nominated by farmers and then may apply for one of the grants. “It’s hard to do agriculture in the 21st Century if you can’t do math and you can’t do science,” said Patterson, explaining the reasoning behind Monsanto’s program. The final decision about where the money goes is made by farmers, according to Patterson.
