National Biodiesel Board pleased with EPA biofuel rule

The National Biodiesel Board is pleased with the Environmental Protection Agency decision Tuesday to maintain the advanced biofuel requirement for 2013 under the Renewable Fuel Standard.

“This really shows the strong support that advanced biofuels are here today and that they’re working,” said Anne Steckel, vice president of federal affairs at the National Biodiesel Board. “And this high number of 2.75 billion gallons is a big win for the biodiesel industry.”

That 2.75-billion-gallon advanced biofuel target will be met and will continue to diversify U.S. fuel supplies, said Steckel, during an interview with Brownfield Ag News.

“This announcement will further solidify our production levels for this year, so this means a lot of growth opportunity for the biodiesel industry,” she said.

The biodiesel industry produced nearly 1.1 billion gallons of the renewable fuel last year, which was 87 percent of the total advanced biofuel requirement in 2012. This year the industry is on pace to again fill a majority of the requirement, according to Steckel, adding that the latest rule will help stimulate new technologies and additional growth.

  • Hey, Tom Steever
I was just checking out brownfieldagnews.com and thought your post “National Biodiesel Board pleased with EPA bio-fuel rule”. What I really liked about that post in particular was the strong support for advanced bio-fuels. But I did have one question how advanced bio-fuel target will be met and will continue to diversify U.S. fuel supplies?
