Rain helps Missouri crops

Widespread showers last week helped improve crop conditions in Missouri.

The state ag statistics office says as of Sunday, 89 percent of corn had silked, 42 percent was in the dough stage and 10 percent was dented, all about a week behind the average. Nearly three-fourths of the state’s corn crop is in fair to good condition.

Fifty-three percent of Missouri soybeans were blooming, 16 percent setting pods – both about a week behind normal. Like corn, the bulk of the soybean crop is in fair to good condition.

Missouri cotton, rice and sorghum crops are doing well.

The state has an 11 percent surplus of hay and other roughages. The second cutting of alfalfa is nearly complete.
