U.S. corn, soybean ratings down on week

USDA reports U.S. corn and soybean condition ratings declined last week with hot and dry weather in some key growing areas.

As of Sunday, 63% of the U.S. corn crop is rated good to excellent, down 3% on the week, but up 37% from this time last year. 43% of corn is silking, compared to 16% last week, 84% last year, and the five year average of 56%.

For soybeans, 64% are in good to excellent condition, 1% less than a week ago, but 33% more than a year ago. 46% of beans are blooming, compared to 26% last week, 78% last year, and 59% on average, with 8% at the pod setting stage, compared to 33% a year ago and 19% on average.

75% of winter wheat is harvested, compared to 84% last year and 76% on average.

85% of spring wheat has headed, compared to 97% a week ago and 88% a year ago, with 68% in good to excellent shape, down 2% on the week.

44% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are called good to excellent, 2% under last week, but 26% above last year.
