It’s that time of year when young people get a chance to demonstrate their livestock showmanship skills at county fairs and other livestock shows. And you would be hard-pressed to find anyone more passionate about showing cattle than 13-year old Miranda Raithel of Falls City, Nebraska.
“I’m not that sports-coordinated, let’s say—and showmanship is more my sport,” Miranda says, “I can show how good I am at it and how I excel in that—and it’s the most passionate thing that I get to do.”
We visited with Miranda at the recent American Junior Simmental National Classic show in Lincoln, where her passion for showing cattle made for an interesting situation.
“I made the judge cry in the show ring—which was very awesome, yet bad at the same time, because we both got choked up at the same exact time,” she says.
“He asked me why I liked to show and I said, ‘Because it’s my passion’. And I said something else that was pretty powerful and he was there for literally 30 seconds and he had to walk away because he got so choked up.
“And I was like ‘Wow, that’s awesome’.”
