Wisconsin Farm Technology Days this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Breezy Hill Dairy near Dallas in Barron County. Alex and Mary Olson are the host farmers this year; they milk 500 cows in a double-eight parlor with a free stall barn and sand bedding. The barns will be open for tours during the show. One of the features of the show will be the new double-lagoon manure system which also collects runoff from the bunker silo area.
This is Alex’s home farm, joining his parent’s in the operation when he graduated high school in 1981. The herd was 70 at that time and has since grown gradually to where they are today.
The Olsons put their bid in to host the show in 2010 and Mary says while they didn’t think they would get it, it has been a tremendous experience.
