Iowa DNR announces emergency haying/grazing

Severe weather challenges have prompted the Iowa Natural Resources Department to open up state lands for emergency haying and grazing, starting July 16th.

Farmers would be responsible for installing temporary electric fencing and watering tanks if they choose to graze their livestock.

The DNR says mostly upland grasslands are available but there are some places where “flash grazing” can take place in northeast Iowa and some other areas where land is not currently being leased by farmers.
