Farm transportation bills signed into law

Governor Mike Pence signs HEA1068 into law.Governor Mike Pence signed two new pieces of legislation in to law today to improve Hoosier commerce.  HEA 1068 and HEA 1481 are two bills that the Governor says will make Indiana agriculture even more competitive.  “They’re clearing the way for federal regulation and making it possible for transportation to more effectively interact with Hoosier agriculture,” he says.  “They will level the playing field between Indiana and some of our neighboring states in regards to transportation permitting.”

Pence says it’s a demonstration of the administration’s ongoing commitment to make agriculture and agriculture innovation a centerpiece of Indiana’s economic growth.

Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann says bills like these – that reduce regulatory burdens for farmers are important to the industry’s continued success.  “We need to make sure we are friendly in how we assist agriculture in getting the job done,” she says.  “We want it done safely, we want it done well, and we want it high quality.  But let’s not get in the way with more regulation than is needed.  I think today was a good example of that.”
