Weather impacting planting progress

The weather isn’t only impacting corn planting, it’s also becoming an issue for produce growers. Jeff Eschmeyer raises certified organic vegetables in Shelby County Ohio.

”We’re getting borderline where’d I’d like to be getting some of my crops in because my days to maturity, my first CSA pickup is the first week of June and I really like to have a nice variety to provide my customers,” said Eschmeyer. “If we go too much longer with the wetness we’ll be a little bit behind, but hopefully things will straighten up here.”

Eschmeyer says the operation, which direct markets its produce through a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program produces about 35 different vegetables on their 22 acres.

Jeff Eschmeyer participated in a conference call earlier this week with Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown. The Senator talked with reporters about the benefits of his Local Farms, Food and Jobs Act to Ohio farmers.
