The diminishing drought

Drought Monitor 4-11While the current weather pattern is keeping the planters in the shed, it is taking a lot of the “red” out of the U.S. Drought Monitor map. As of Tuesday, 3.38 percent of the land in the contiguous United States is in exceptional drought, a 1.8 percent reduction from the previous week. The big change was in Nebraska where 15 percent is in exceptional drought compared to 75 percent a week ago. As a whole, the High Plains saw the exceptional drought area cut in half from last week to 11.7 percent.

The only moderate or severe drought area east of the Mississippi is the northwestern-half of Wisconsin but that is most likely going to end this week as up to a foot of snow is expected to blanket the area by the end of this week.
