Too wet to plant corn

It’s too wet to plant corn in much of the Missouri. Rob Korff is president of the Missouri Corn Growers Association – he farms east of Kansas City, north of the Missouri River and spoke with Brownfield on Tuesday.  He says, “We are very wet right now and there’s more rain in the forecast the next two or three days. We’d like to see it stop for a while and dry out because it is April the 9th today and we’d like to have the corn in the ground.”

What a difference a year makes. Korff tells Brownfield, “Last year at this time we were 90 degrees every day and we started the first of April and we were almost done with corn by this date.”

But everyone knows how last year turned out with the drought. Korff says it all comes down to those critical weather conditions in July and August for corn.
