Soil moisture still a concern in Iowa

A lack of subsoil moisture continues to be a concern across much of Iowa.

The latest crops and weather report rates subsoil moisture levels as 43 percent very short, 42 percent short and 15 percent adequate.  Topsoil moisture levels rated 16 percent very short, 40 percent short, 42 percent adequate and two percent surplus.

Fieldwork activity took place last week in southern Iowa, where farmers tiled, applied fertilizer and seeded oats.   In northern Iowa, frost was still leaving the ground.
