Not much happening in Wisconsin fields

The first Wisconsin Crop Progress Report of the season this week with not a lot to say. Temperatures last week averaged 1 to 7 degrees below normal, a foot-or-more of snow cover yet on some fields. Year-to-date precipitation is above average except in the La Crosse area.

A little manure hauling taking place but no tillage, alfalfa is dormant but reporters are concerned about a sheet of ice under the snow on some fields. Winter wheat is mostly dormant except for a little greening in extreme southern Wisconsin.

Maple sap season is much more normal that what we saw a year ago, reports are the run is anywhere from slow to excellent.
