Nebraska’s wheat rating slips

The condition rating of Nebraska’s wheat crop slipped a little more in the past week.

Fifty-one percent of the crop is now rated very poor to poor, compared to 49 percent in that category last week.  The fair rating is 38, with 10 percent rated good and one percent excellent.   One percent of the wheat is jointed, compared to nine percent last year and two percent average.

The weekly crop progress and condition report puts topsoil moisture supplies at 77 percent very short to short and subsoil moisture at 95 percent very short to short.

The report notes that pastures in the state are showing little growth as producers consider  how to deal with declining forage supplies.
