Four Nebraska livestock markets called off

Four Nebraska auction markets have called off sales in the next few days in anticipation of a Plains storm headed this way.  The Thursday sale at Valentine, the Friday sales at Burwell and at Lexington and the Saturday sale at Ericson Spalding are called off because of the weather.

Weather uncertainty is also resulting in cattle buyers looking for inventory earlier in the week than they normally would. Market analysts at DTN say that if no cattle are traded today, there will likely be none until Friday or later because of the weather disruption.

It’s also thought that hog buyers will have steady to firm bids today unless they have enough hogs already booked to keep packing plants busy for the rest of the week.
