Johanns wants more transparency from EPA

Nebraska U.S. Senator Mike Johanns has introduced a package of legislation which he says would require greater transparency and accountability from the Environmental Protection Agency’s regulatory process.

Johanns says one of the most common complaints he hears from constituents involves unnecessary and burdensome government regulations—and how much they have increased in the past four years.

“The EPA has been one of the biggest offenders—whether I’m talking to farmers or factory workers or builders, they’ve talked about the problems in dealing with the EPA,” Johanns says.

Johanns says one of his bills would close a loophole that has allowed EPA to use guidance documents to expand the agency’s regulatory reach without being subjected to Congressional oversight.

He cites the recent instance where EPA used agency guidelines to expand the definition of “waters of the United States” under the Clean Water Act.  Johanns says that should have instead gone through the rulemaking process.

  • I agree with the good Senator from Nebraska . I also want him to support legislation that will demand transparency in the banking industry as well as in the campaign contributions . They seem to be the greatest places for coruption of our elected officials .
