Healthier school snack rules proposed

New rules are being put forth for healthier school snacks and you can tell the government what you think about them.  The US Department of Agriculture, through the Healthy and Hunger Free Kids Law is proposing new requirements for snacks served at public schools. The suggestions are modeled after the new lunch and breakfast requirements of more foods with whole grains, low fat dairy, fruits, vegetables and protein as their main ingredients.

    Hello,
I think that this program is wonderful. But my only complaint is that my child comes home starved to death after school. I have talked to many of the parents at my child’s school and they are also complaining of the same thing. How do we correct this? My daughter is 9 yrs old, weighing 74 lbs…not the least bit overweight, but I feel that there should be bigger proportions for these children. Can this be changed?

    Thank you,

    Angela Tackett

    Hi Angela,

Here is a link to the Healthy Living program I did that addresses the concern of parents about the standards and the USDA saying it would make adjustments.

In addition, the USDA is seeking public comment on their proposed school snack food rules. Here is a link to the Healthy Living program about that.
