AGCO talks grain storage business

A major ag equipment company has gotten into the grain storage business recently and expects a good year for business, even if the drought continues.

Robert Crain, AGCO’s Senior Vice President and General Manager, tells Brownfield at the AG CONNECT Expo in Kansas City that the drought has impacted business somewhat,“But, like any year,” he addsm “This is a very, very cyclical business and we expect 2013 to be a very, very bullish year for this business.”

Crain says they are taking a global view of the drought situation.  He says, “Certainly, from a worldwide perspective,” Crain tells Brownfield Ag News, “No doubt North America had a drought but if you go to other parts of the world such as Brazil – China, is a great, great growth opportunity which we’re seeing and it truly made up for the downfall we had in North America because of the drought.

With China’s increasing need for protein, Crain says, they need plenty of storage for feedstock in that country’s production of hogs and poultry.  And, Crain says AGCO is optimistic that the drought in North America could turn around THIS year.
