Kirk says 3 FTAs among biggest successes

U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk is officially stepping down. Ambassador Kirk announced today that he will leave the position in late February. The announcement has been expected for several months. Kirk says he’s been privileged to serve President Obama alongside USTR professionals in making “great strides” in trade policy and enforcement, more consistent with the “rights of workers and the environment.”

Kirk pointed to the passage by Congress and implementation of the “long-pending” free trade agreements with Korea, Colombia, and Panama, the advancement of the Trans Pacific Partnership negotiations, and, the WTO agreement between Russia and the U.S. among the successes of the US Trade Representative’s office during his four years at the helm.
