Reid reintroduces Farm Bill

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has introduced a series of “top priority bills” in the Senate today including the Farm Bill. The Agriculture Reform, Food and Jobs Act (S.2340) cleared the Senate with overwhelming, bipartisan support on June 21, 2012.

Senate Ag Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow praised Reid’s commitment to getting a five-year farm bill done.  Stabenow has said she is committed to convening a Committee mark up as soon as possible, to produce an updated version of the Farm Bill, which could then be substituted for Majority Leader Reid’s placeholder bill.

  • We wish the new Farm Bill to include subsidies to help farmers transition and succeed in Organic Plant Farming (OPF). The OPF subsidies can extend to new farmers as well because OPF farmers are the healers of the Earth. And we need as many healers as possible to speed up the Earth healing.

OPF is the most important practice for a sustainable agriculture. It can stop further degradation of this Planet; while restoring the health of Nature and the health of people living in it.
