Northern Beef plant poised for full production
An Aberdeen, South Dakota beef processing plant has raised enough capital to get to full production. The Northern Beef Packers plant has been operating on a limited basis since last fall. For six years the plant’s opening was delayed by legal, financial and natural issues ranging from lawsuits to floods.
An Aberdeen American News story says Northern Beef has raised more than $150 million, which includes working capital. With its equipment, the plant is valued at $109 million.
Northern Beef will eventually have the capacity to process 1,500 cattle per shift from five states, producing more than a million pounds of boxed beef and beef byproducts daily.
Northern Beef has hired more than 350 workers and eventually will employ 500.
