Friday midday cash livestock markets

Cattle country was quiet on Friday morning following light to moderate business on Thursday. Southern live deals were marked mostly 2.00 lower at 126.00. Dressed deals in Nebraska were from 204.00 to 205.00, but as the day progressed prices dropped to mostly 202.00 to 203.00, steady to 3.00 lower than last week. Asking prices on cattle left on the showlists are around 127.00 to 128.00 plus in the South and 200.00 plus in the North.

Boxed beef cutout values were mixed in the morning report, choice beef was up .41 at 194.22, and select was down .15 at 185.51.

Feeder cattle receipts at the Mitchell Livestock Auction at Mitchell, South Dakota totaled 8603 head.  Steers trended 1.00 to 3.00 lower than last week and heifers were steady to 5.00 lower. There was a good demand for calves and yearlings, with very good attendance by consigners, farmer feeders and order buyers. 662 head of feeder steers averaging 730 pounds trade at an average of 149.36 per hundredweight. 594 heifers weighing 721 brought an average of 138.94.

Barrows and gilts in the Iowa/Minnesota direct trade are 1.67 lower at 82.11 on a carcass basis, the West is down 1.99 at 81.70, and the East is 2.67 lower at 79.05.Missouri direct base carcass meat price is steady from 74.00 to 76.00. Terminal hogs are fully steady from 53.50 to 56.00 on a live basis.

The pork carcass seems to be steadily moving higher, supported yesterday by improving demand for butt and ham cuts.
