University of Missouri Meat Science Professor Dr. Carol Lorenzen is one of five new members appointed to the National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection (NACMPI) by Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack.
The 17-member board was established in 1971 and advises ag secretaries on food safety and regulatory issues.
Vilsack says the diversity of views on the committee is invaluable for ensuring food safety adding that he’s committed to “aggressively decreasing the incidence of foodborne illness” in the U.S.
