Good month and year for U.S. tractor sales

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) says tractor sales in December totaled 17,774 up 11.6 percent from December of 2011. Two-wheel-drive sales increased 10.4 percent to 17,006 while four-wheel-drive sales for the month totaled 768 up 45.2 percent from a year ago.

For the year, total tractor sales were 185,150 up 10.2 percent from 2011. Four-wheel-drive sales in 2012 were up 16 percent to 6,935 while two-wheel-drive sales were 10 percent higher at 178,215. Almost half of all tractors sold, 92,207 were two-wheel-drives under 40 horsepower. 54,276 were 40 to 100 horsepower and 31,732 were over 100 horsepower two-wheel-drives.

U.S. self-propelled combine sales were down a little last year. A total of 9,820 machines were sold, 0.8 percent below 2011.
