West Ohio Agronomy Day

The West Ohio Agronomy Day is going to be held on Monday, January 14 at St. Michael’s in Fort Loramie.

Harold Watters, OSU Extension field agronomist says they’ll begin the day with breakfast and a listening session sponsored by the Ohio Soybean Association at 7:30 a.m., followed at 8:30 with a grain outlook session.

“We’ve got Robert Mullen talking about phosphorus, phosphorus management and soil fertility in general, he’ll probably hit on nitrogen as well, because it is really those two elements that giving us some problems as far as environmental concerns in Western Ohio,” said Watters. “Terry Niblack, Chair of the Plant Pathology Department on the OSU campus is an expert in nematodes, she’s going to talk to us about corn in the morning and then soybean cyst nematodes in the afternoon.”

Other speakers include, Dr. Laura Lindsay, soybean and small grains specialist at Ohio State University and Dr. Fred Whitford from Purdue University talking about “Keeping the Trailer Hitched to the Truck.”

The deadline to register for the West Ohio Agronomy Day is Thursday, January 10. For more information, contact the Shelby County Extension office, 937-498-7239.

For those unable to attend during the day, an evening session will begin at 5:30 p.m.
