IA Nutrient Reduction Strategy public meeting

Another public meeting on Iowa’s Nutrient Reduction Strategy is scheduled for January 18th. The strategy is in response to the 2008 Gulf Hypoxia Action Plan that calls for plans from the dozen states along the Mississippi River to reduce the nutrient load into the Gulf of Mexico.

Iowa’s strategy follows the framework provided in 2011 by the EPA and is only the second state to complete a strategy for nutrient reduction.

The comment period also ends on January 18th. The public meeting is that Friday at 1 p.m. at the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach office in Monticello at the Jones County Fairgrounds.
