The Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts held their annual Awards Banquet last evening. Again this year, Brownfield Ag News sponsored the Friend of Conservation Award. Indiana Farm Director Meghan Grebner was on hand to present the award.

The winners of the three separate categories:

Corporate: Duke Energy, Cayuga Station, Vermillion County. They are committed to using their presence to improve the environment. The plant features a 35-acre wetland and Cayuga Station works with various agency to protect threatened species by managing the company’s assets to encourage habitats and nesting.

Non-profit: The Friends of the Middle Fork Steering Committee, Wayne County. A group of local community members are concerned about the water flowing into the Middle Fork of the East Fork of the Whitewater River. The volunteers actively pursued clean water by educating others about stream and reservoir water quality.

By increasing conservation practices in the watershed – they have successfully slowed the amount of sedimentation into the reservoir.

Individual: Allen and Peggy Royer, Putnam County. The Royers use their farm as an educational site. They allow over 1,000 visitors to their farm to show how conservation practices can improve soil and water quality on the farm. The Royers actively work with several agencies to achieve their conservation goals.

Congratulations to all the winners!
