Does sugar cause obesity and diabetes?

Obesity and diabetes are complex conditions and, yes, they are related to lifestyle choices. But can we blame over consumption of sugar?  The US dietary guidelines recommend we get around half of our calories from carbohydrates. Sugar and other sweeteners are carbohydrates. But their calories are considered empty. Marianne Smith Edge with the International Food Information Council says it’s best to choose mostly nutrient rich sources of carbohydrates – such as whole grains.

    The effect of alcohol is positive in very few cases, but diabetics who want to enjoy a drink should not be very disappointed. Needless to say, having a drink is never healthy and more so if you have diabetes. But those diabetics who cannot do without their indulgence should learn about the relation between complications .
