U.W. Oshkosh anaerobic digester plans delayed

Plans to build an anaerobic digester at Rosendale Farms near Pickett, Wisconsin, have been put on hold. The digester is a joint project between the 8,300-cow Rosendale Dairy and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Foundation. The U.W. Oshkosh Foundation withdrew the application for the construction and operation permit on Monday on a technicality.

UW-O spokesman Alex Hummel tells the Ripon Commonwealth Press the application did not make it clear enough that while the digester would be on the dairy farm, it will be built and owned by the Foundation. He says they will clarify the wording and then re-apply for the permit.

Because of the withdrawal, a DNR hearing on the permit scheduled for Ripon on Friday has been cancelled.

This is the second biodigester the U.W. Oshkosh Foundation is involved with; the first is a much smaller “dry” digester in Oshkosh which has been operating for more than a year utilizing plant and food waste from the campus to generate electricity.
