In response to complaints those new school lunch regulations do not provide enough nutrition for active children, USDA is making some changes. U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack sent a letter to members of Congress on Friday saying the will eliminate the daily and weekly maximum allowances for meat and grains. Calories will still be limited.
The guidelines were implemented in an effort to fight childhood obesity by limiting calories and salt while phasing-in whole grains and providing at least one fruit and one vegetable per meal.
