Graff: Be ready for less government support

A self-described Illinois “farm boy” with a long list of accomplishments will be a presenter at the upcoming AG CONNECT Expo & Summit in Kansas City.  Bill Graff and his family raise corn, soybeans, hay, wheat and purebred cattle in central Illinois. He’s a former Illinois Farm Service Agency director and serves on a number of ag boards.

Graff says farmers need to be ready for the change that’s coming.  He tells Brownfield Ag News, “You need to come up with a plan to be able to survive on your own two feet. And, what I mean by that is I see in the future that the government support for farm operations is going to only head one way and that’s down.”  Graff adds, “If you are depending on government payments to make you profitable right now, you are probably in trouble in the future.”

Graff’s Managing for Profit session presented by Brownfield Ag News is Tuesday, January 29th from 2:30 to 3:30 pm.

AEM’s AG CONNECT Expo & Summit runs January 29th through 31st, 2013 at the Kansas City Convention Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
