Huelscamp loses House Ag Committee seat

Kansas Republican Tim Huelscamp has lost his seat on the House Agriculture Committee. Huelscamp says he got “limited explanation for his removal” from Speaker John Boehner. The second-term conservative apparently losing the seat for alienating party leadership on several occasions in the last session including votes against raising the debt ceiling last summer and opposing the so-called Ryan Budget blueprint.

Huelscamp represents the agriculture-rich 1st Congressional District in Kansas. Known as “The Big First”; the district covers more than half of the state and has had a seat on the House Ag Committee for more than 100 years. Bob Dole, Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran are among those who represented the 1st at one time or another.

Huelscamp is one of four conservative Republicans who lost their committee assignments this week in what appears to be a widening gap between the TEA Party and Republican leadership.
